President of Association of World Citizens Visits the Control Yuan

Dr. Rene Wadlow, President of the Association of World Citizens, accompanied by representatives from the Chinese Association for Human Rights and Association of World Citizens in Taiwan, visited Control Yuan President Wang Chien-Shien on December 11 to discuss human rights issues and gain a better understanding of the human rights protection efforts by the Control Yuan.

As Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Dr. Wadlow has been committed to a number of humanitarian causes, including resolving military conflicts, launching education programs in underdeveloped regions, mediating disputes and promoting human rights. He has been invited to speak at the 2012 Roundtable Discussions for General Review of Taiwan’s Compliance with the ICCPR and ICESCR held on December 10. His visit to Taiwan is expected to provide a third-party witness to Taiwan’s progress in human rights protection.

While expressing great admiration for Dr. Wadlow’s efforts and commitment in facilitating human rights protection around the world, President Wang also acknowledges the fact that Taiwan has shown significant progress in human rights endeavors. Although Taiwan’s road ahead requires further collaboration between the government and civil groups, many countries around the world are still struggling with even more serious human rights issues. Hopefully, Dr. Wadlow will continue to use his broad experience and status in the international community to call for greater attention from governments around the world to improve human rights protection on a global scale, President Wang says.
