An open discussion with representatives from the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH)

Vice President and Convener of Human Rights Protection Committee of the Control Yuan, Jinn-Lih Chen, in the company of Control Yuan Members Li Bing-nan and Li Fuldien, sat down with representatives from FIDH, Mr. David Knaute from France, Mr. Danthong Breen from Thailand, and Ms. Puri Kencana Putri from Indonesia, to discuss human rights issues. Impressed as they were by the Control Yuan's transparency and efforts in tackling human rights issues, the guests also expressed a deep concern for the legal status of death penalty in the Republic of China. The parties exchanged ideas on a number of issues, including disaster relief, urban renewal, prisoner rights, as well as the Control Yuan's functions, and the possibility of establishing a national human rights action plan and a national human rights institution. The event ended with Vice President Chen presenting the guests with a paperweight souvenir engraved with Control Yuan’s facade.(11/ 13/ 2012)
